A new Aldi is officially opening its doors to the public on May 2 in the city of North Liberty.

On Thursday, the long-anticipated opening will occur at 8:30 a.m. at 725 N. Highway 965 and offer the first 100 customers a gift bag of Aldi Fan Favorites sample products, as well as a gift card as part of its Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program.

Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes during the grand opening weekend May 2-5 for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card, a news release from the company said.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said Heather McCarthy, Dwight vice president for ALDI. “We’re excited to open our first ALDI store in North Liberty and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

This will be the German-owned chain’s 39th store in Iowa, and will be opened daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
