The NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids has announced a number of updates, including a new FLO Business Hub, expanded hours and a small business award.

FLO Business Hub provides Fellowship for Launching Opportunities

Launching and sustaining a small business can be a daunting journey, filled with challenges and uncertainties.

As a result, the NewBo City Market is announcing the FLO Business Hub program.

FLO, an acronym for “Fellowship for Launching Opportunities,” epitomizes the Market’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial spirit and fostering sustainable business growth. According to a release, the comprehensive six-month program is specifically crafted to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to thrive in the competitive business landscape.

The program will feature a series of classes led by seasoned professionals, coupled with immersive workshops aimed at refining individual business strategies. Participants can anticipate delving into critical areas such as:

  • Writing an Effective Business Plan: Learn the art of crafting a robust business plan that serves as a roadmap for success.
  • Establishing Banking Relationships and Business Accounts: Navigate the intricacies of financial management and secure vital banking partnerships.
  • Building Brand Identity and Crafting Marketing Strategies: Harness the power of branding and marketing to enhance visibility and attract customers.
  • Developing Pricing Models and Conducting Competitor Analysis: Master the art of strategic pricing and gain insights into competitive positioning.

Market expanding its hours

The NewBo City Market is expanding its hours of operation, beginning May 1.

According to a release, the Market is extending shopkeeper operating hours to better accommodate patrons’ schedules and offer more opportunities for enjoyment.

Starting May 1, NewBo City Market will be open on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday hours will be expanded until 8 p.m., allowing visitors to explore shopkeepers’ food and shopping offerings well into the evening.

New Market hours as of May 1 are as follows:

  • Monday – Tuesday: Closed
  • Wednesday – Saturday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Market is also offering additional bingo dates throughout the month of May, on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The bingo events are free to attend, bingo cards will be supplied, and prizes are available to winners.

Luncheon set June 4 for Rooted in Resilience award

The NewBo City Market will host the Rooted In Resilience luncheon Tuesday, June 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Market.

According to Market officials, the luncheon will provide “an afternoon of inspiration and connection as we come together to celebrate our strength and perseverance.”

The event will include food, speakers, and a supportive community “as we reflect on our resilience and look towards a bright future.”

The annual Rooted in Reslience award will also be presented.
