The Multicultural Development Center of Iowa (MDC Iowa) has a new associate director at its helm.
James Mims, a graduate of the Community Leadership Program and former site director of the Broadway Neighborhood Center, holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Iowa, with an emphasis on optimal business decision making.
In his new role, Mr. Mims will oversee staff members, lead grant initiatives, and guide the center’s programs in economic development and STEM education, emphasizing the development and growth of the center’s STEM Factory and INNOV8 Idea Lab.
Working closely with founder and executive director Tracy Jon Sargeant, Mr. Mims is expected to transition into the executive director role in the future.
“James’s appointment marks an exciting chapter for MDC Iowa,” Mr. Sargeant said. “His expertise and dedication to fostering community growth align perfectly with our vision.”
Additionally, “his analytical skills and knowledge from the Tippie College of Business will be valuable assets to MDC’s INCUBATE Business Accelerator program,” a release stated.
MDC Iowa focuses on uniting and empowering underserved, underestimated, and historically disadvantaged community members. The organization’s programs address the digital divide, promote diversity in STEM, foster inclusive economic development, and build creative confidence through maker spaces and DIY initiatives.
