Millstream Brewing Co., based in Amana, has acquired Kismet Kombucha, adding the small-batch kombucha brand to a portfolio that already includes beer, soda, cider and seltzer.
The acquisition was officially announced March 31. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition of Kismet Kombucha, which launched in 2021, marks the company’s entry into the fast-growing non-alcoholic and functional beverage segment.
“Kismet Kombucha has built an exceptional brand grounded in craftsmanship, creativity, and community — values that closely align with our own,” said Susan Charlier, co-owner of Millstream Brewing Co. “We are excited to support the growth of this brand while preserving the authenticity and quality that Kismet Kombucha customers love.”
Under the terms of the deal, Kismet Kombucha will continue to operate under its existing brand name. Production is expected to expand through access to Millstream’s facilities and distribution network, while existing recipes and brand identity are to remain unchanged.
Kismet Kombucha has built a regional following for its kombucha, which is made with organic teas and natural ingredients. The company has been expanding distribution across the Midwest.
Kismet Kombucha is available at HyVee, Fareway and New Pioneer Co-op stores, along with more than 100 coffee and tea shops across the Midwest, including Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas.
Five flavors are currently offered: Cherry Lime, Berry Hibiscus, Guava Pineapple, Blueberry Lavender and Vanilla Peach.
Millstream said the acquisition aligns with broader industry trends toward wellness-oriented and low- or no-alcohol beverages. The company said it plans to invest in product development, production capacity and expanded market reach for the Kismet Kombucha brand.
Founded in 1985, Millstream Brewing Co., at 835 48th Ave. in Amana, is Iowa’s oldest craft brewery and the ninth oldest operating craft brewery in the United States.
The brewery will produce and distribute nearly 10,000 barrels (20,000 keg equivalents) of craft beer, cider, seltzer and kombucha in 2026. Millstream’s craft sodas are distributed nationwide.
