Mercy Iowa City President and CEO Sean Williams announces plans to resign

Mercy Iowa City confirmed today that Sean Williams, Mercy Iowa City president and CEO, has shared his plans to resign, effective Sept. 30, 2021. Mike Trachta, MercyOne System vice president of network affiliates and current chief operating officer of Mercy Iowa City,  will become acting president of Mercy Iowa City.

Sean Williams joined Mercy Iowa City as president and CEO in May of 2018.

He came to Mercy Iowa City after previously serving as CEO of Mercy Medical Center – Clinton, for eight years. He has also held a variety of leadership positions in other organizations, including serving St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as CEO of Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, Iowa.

“As announced previously, Mercy Iowa City continues to be engaged in a process to identify a long-term partner, and we will share more information as soon as it becomes available. Our focus continues to be on serving in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy, our founders, by providing compassionate care to our patients and families,” according to a release.
