One of the most popular downtown Cedar Rapids events is returning Saturday, Aug. 26.
Market After Dark, presented by ImOn Communications, is bringing more than 100 vendors, entertainment, special lighted attractions, games and more to downtown for a free, outdoor community event.
The eighth annual Market After Dark will be held 6:30-11 p.m. During the event, patrons 21 years and older can take part in an open-container environment within the designated market area. The open container policy within the market area starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends promptly at 11 p.m. Alcohol will also be sold at participating downtown establishments.
Beer and wine will be sold at various locations for $7 in disposable Market After Dark cups until 10:30 p.m. Canned soda and water will be available for $3 and a non-alcoholic beverage tent, located in Greene Square, will serve Millstream soda for $4 and floats for $6.Â
New additions to this year’s market includes a lighted alley complete with a string quartet and hall of mirrors, a kid-friendly campfire and picnic area for kids to enjoy the evening’s ambiance, dozens of games that will be located in the Game Zone in Greene Square, and photo opportunities with the Welcoming Week wings in the Fourth Avenue Parking Garage.
Vendors will be located on Second Avenue SE, Third Avenue SE and Fourth Avenue SE between Second Street SE and Fifth Street SE.Â
Entertainment also returns with two stages located throughout the venue. Kevin Moore will perform on the main stage at Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street from 6:30-7:15 p.m. and the High & Mighty will perform 7:30-10:30 p.m. A variety of local talent will also be rotating through on a stage located at Second Avenue SE and Second Street SE.
