The Cedar Rapids Long John Silver’s restaurant is set to reopen later this summer, company officials have confirmed.
The quick-serve seafood restaurant, at 2630 Williams Blvd. SW, known for its fried fish and hush puppies, has been closed since it sustained extensive damage in a fire Dec. 12, 2023, according to a KCRG-TV9 report.
Several social media posts speculated that the restaurant wouldn’t reopen, and a Google search Thursday still shows its status as “permanently closed,” but a company spokesperson countered that narrative.
“The Long John Silver’s location in Cedar Rapids, IA is tentatively set to reopen late summer 2024,” the spokesperson said. “Our local Long John Silver’s crew looks forward (to) delivering our unique seafood experience with the treasured menu offerings customers have come to know and love.”
Several restoration and contractor vehicles have been seen at the restaurant in recent months, and records from the Linn County Assessor’s Office indicate that work has been underway since February to replace drywall ceilings in the customer service, kitchen and dishwashing areas, along with installing new grid ceilings and reframing an existing partition wall inside the building.

The building was constructed for Long John Silver’s in 1973.
The Williams Boulevard location is the only remaining Corridor location for Long John Silver’s. A previous Cedar Rapids location at 3801 First Ave. SE closed in June 2014 as part of a move to close eight Long John Silver’s restaurants statewide at that time.
The chain also operates Iowa locations in Clinton, Davenport, Urbandale, Des Moines, Council Bluffs and Sioux City.
