Clinical Assistant Professor, Certified Nurse-Midwife University of Iowa Health Care AGE: 36 Best advice you ever received? Attend to the basics — get enough sleep, eat healthy, stay hydrated and active. What do you consider your biggest break so far? I consider starting my Ph.D. in the College of Public Health last year my biggest break. It’s really helped me see the possibilities within the work I am doing and how it can be amplified. What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I have a Star Wars bomber jacket, which I love. If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? National Birth Equity Collaborative, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Emma Goldman Clinic, Black Women’s Maternal Health, Collective Black. What are your passions outside of the workplace? I enjoy watching movies and am looking forward to the fall and winter releases of Dune, No Time to Die, Eternals, Spiderman: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrection. What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace? I’m committed to millennial ideals of curiosity, learning, challenging hierarchies, transparency and inclusion, just to name a few. I think it’s important for people in the workplace to understand our desire to do something meaningful. What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? I have no idea what I will be doing when I am 50, but I want to continue advancing innovations in maternal health and hope to be doing work that is addressing the systematic and structural barriers to optimal reproductive health outcomes for all people.
