Nursing Practice Leader-Pediatric Vascular Access University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital AGE: 38 What was your first job? Besides frequent babysitting of the neighborhood kids, I worked at Taco Fiesta in Westdale Mall. How long have you been in your current job? 15 years. Who do you consider your local mentors? Deb Bruene, Pediatric Pain, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital; Stephanie Stewart Associate, Director of Nursing, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital; Ann Marie McCarthy, University of Iowa College of Nursing. Best advice you ever received? When I was asked to consider applying for a non-direct patient care position, I hesitated because I identified as a bedside nurse and was afraid of change. The advice I received was, you can always go back to the bedside, but this is your one opportunity to be in this role and you should take it. I have had so much job satisfaction since stepping out of my comfort zone, and I’m very grateful for that initial push.
