All five Kwik Shop locations in the Cedar Rapids metro area are in the process of being rebranded as Sinclair stores, signaling the convenience store chain’s apparent exit from the local market.
Signs bearing the Sinclair logo and the phrase “coming soon” are in place at the Kwik Shop locations at 3301 J St. SW, 1003 First Ave. SW, 2904 Center Point Rd. NE and 4201 Center Point Rd. NE, all in Cedar Rapids, and at 300 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE in Hiawatha.
All five locations were sold in separate transactions recorded from mid-January through mid-February, according to Cedar Rapids assessor’s records. The adjusted transaction amounts ranged from $1.02 million to $1.18 million.
All sales were recorded to separate limited liability companies (LLCs) for each location, according to assessor’s records.
The Kwik Shop chain
previously changed hands in 2018, when its corporate parent, Kroger, sold off its convenience store business to UK-based EG Group in a transaction valued at $2.15 billion.
Efforts to reach the EG Group for comment on the transactions were unsuccessful.
Kwik Shop traces its roots to 1960, when Dick Dillon, founder of Dillon Stores, developed the Kwik Shop convenience store concept. The company grew to be a 127-store chain, with locations in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas.
