ITC Midwest, a regional electric transmission company, has relocated its headquarters to a newly renovated facility in the Westdale Mall redevelopment area. According to a news release from ITC, the move will provide expanded space for the growing company and reinforce its commitment to Cedar Rapids as its permanent home.
The new facility features a single-floor, open-office layout designed to promote collaboration, communication, and productivity among employees. Nearly 100 of ITC Midwest’s 130 employees are based at the headquarters, with capacity to accommodate up to 120 additional employees as the company grows.
“Our decision to purchase and renovate a building with space configured to create a modern office environment reinforces our decision to plant roots and maintain permanent headquarters in Cedar Rapids. The Westdale Mall area has become a major economic hub in the city, and it provides the perfect environment for ITC Midwest’s new company headquarters,” said ITC Midwest President Dusky Terry in the release. “We value the quality of life the greater Cedar Rapids area provides for our employees to live, work and raise their families. We are also pleased to be actively involved with and committed to the community, and proud to be part of the area’s success.”
ITC Midwest was formerly headquartered at 123 5th St SE. Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell highlighted the company’s ongoing role in the local economy.
“For years, ITC Midwest has played a vital role in powering our homes and industries. This new headquarters facility illustrates the company’s commitment to keeping the lights on in Cedar Rapids and the greater region,” said Ms. O’Donnell in the release. “We are pleased ITC Midwest chose to make Cedar Rapids its permanent home, adding momentum to a growing list of investments on the southwest side.”
Strategic location and enhanced facilities
The new headquarters building at 3165 Edgewood Parkway S.W. was originally built in 2002 and underwent significant renovations to meet ITC Midwest’s needs. Previously, the building housed Purdue University Global’s Cedar Rapids campus before it was closed in 2020.
The facility includes several upgraded features:
- More meeting and collaboration spaces than the former building
- Abundant surface parking for employees and guests adjacent to the building; an important consideration when ITC Midwest field personnel travel to the headquarters in company trucks.
- Easy access to U.S. Highway 30 and Interstate 380 for employees and guests, with relatively close proximity to the Eastern Iowa Airport.
- On-site backup generator allowing company personnel to use the office as a crisis management hub during power outage emergencies.
Cedar Rapids is home to major utilities served by ITC Midwest, including Alliant Energy and Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO). The company’s decision to invest in this location reflects its dedication to supporting these utilities and driving value for the customers it serves, the release states.
The renovations were designed by Vantage Architects, with local contractors contributing to construction and furnishing. ITC Midwest began transitioning to the new office in November 2024.
