IRL hosting Octoberfest on Saturday

Iowa River Landing, a 180-acre mixed-use development located off of Interstate 80 in Coralville, will host its first-ever Octoberfest featuring family-friendly events such as a dog costume parade, exclusive shopping deals, activities, a fundraiser for a local nonprofit, and more on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Events kick off at 11 a.m. with a one-mile Retrieving Freedom Fundraiser Walk through the Wetland Park behind the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Convention Center. Retrieving Freedom Inc. is a non-profit organization that’s dedicated to providing veterans and children with autism with trained service dogs. A $20 donation gets participants a T-shirt, free beer after the walk and a special discount card.

“The Iowa River Landing is first and foremost a space for the community so it’s exciting to host these types of events and also incorporate a way people can give back to great organizations like Retrieving Freedom,” said Deanna Printy, commercial property manager at Iowa River Landing, in a news release.

After the Walk, participants can join the dog costume parade from noon-1 p.m. starting at the Wetland Park and ending at Von Maur. Retailers will offer exclusive fall deals, and live music will begin at noon on East Second Avenue. Family Friendly events will take place throughout the day, including pumpkin painting at Backpocket Brewery.

“This is going to be a great opportunity for the community to come check out the new retail stores while also enjoying time with family,” said Ms. Printy.
