Iowa Kids Pediatric Dentistry is set to open a new children-focused dental practice in Marion, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
The new office, at 100 Sixth Avenue, underscores the practice’s commitment to high-quality pediatric dental care for the Marion community.
The clinic is operated by Dr. Kaaren Vargas, DDS, Ph.D., a board-certified pediatric dentist with over 30 years of experience, and her daughter, Dr. Cecilia Vargas, DDS, a general dentist.
Ms. Kaaren Vargas brings a background as a researcher and educator in pediatric dentistry, alongside her leadership in both national and international dental organizations. Ms. Cecilia Vargas, following in her mother’s footsteps, offers a vibrant approach to young patients.
Ms. Kaaren Vargas sold her North Liberty practice in 2019, later seizing the opportunity to return to work alongside her daughter. The clinic began operating this past August.
“Working with my daughter is a dream come true,” Ms. Vargas said. “I love the energy she brings to the practice, and it is a joy to watch her excel as a dentist.”
Iowa Kids Pediatric Dentistry provides a full range of pediatric services, including dental education, recare appointments, sealants, fillings, emergency treatments, extractions, cosmetic dentistry, and pulp therapy for both primary and permanent teeth. The clinic also offers sedation options, such as nitrous oxide, and access to operating room services at the University of Iowa Downtown Campus in Iowa City.
Adding to the clinic’s warm atmosphere are two therapy dogs, Truly and Pacha, helping to create a calm environment for young patients.
“We designed this office to be a welcoming, positive space for kids and parents alike,” Ms. Vargas said. “From the cheerful facility to our friendly team, we aim to make every visit an enjoyable experience.”

Residents may recognize the clinic’s location as the former McDonald’s restaurant, which has undergone a full rebuild. The well-known white MARION letters remain in place, preserving the landmark that has long served as a symbolic entry to the city along Marion Boulevard.
