Iowa City announces new deputy city manager

Redmond Jones II will officially become the new deputy city manager of Iowa City on Sept. 20.

Filling the role previously held by Ashley Monroe, Mr. Jones served as city administrator for the City of West Branch for more than four years. He also has stints as city manager for the City of Groveland (Florida) and as State of Iowa commissioner for the Iowa Commission on Human Rights.

His prior work as assistant to the city administrator and affirmative action officer for the City of Davenport also provided key opportunities for Mr. Jones to hone his skills in economic development, contract negotiations and crisis management, according to a press release.

The numerous experiences in local government has seen him handle situations regarding management, project coordination, strategic planning, sustainability and green innovation, human rights, equity and inclusion, human resources and budget analysis.

Mr. Jones earned a bachelor of arts from Cleveland State University in urban studies and affairs and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas.
