International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) has announced the upcoming expansion of its Danisco US Inc. Cedar Rapids facility, totaling a $70 million investment. The expansion is aimed at increasing the company’s presence in the growing healthy snacks market, as stated in a news release from IFF.
The 47,000-square-foot expansion is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2026 and could create up to 40 new jobs.
The new expansion marks the latest chapter in a series of expansions at the facility, located at 1000 41st Ave. Dr. SW. At a meeting in January, the Cedar Rapids City Council unanimously approved a resolution of support for city financial incentives for the project – then slated for $68 million.
The facility will produce TAURA by IFF fruit-based ingredients for snack manufacturers, with a focus on integrating advanced automation, packaging, and ergonomic designs. The expansion will also emphasize sustainability by incorporating heat recovery systems, reducing energy and water consumption, and implementing reusable raw material handling methods, the release states.
“Our Cedar Rapids plant will be equipped with cutting-edge technologies, allowing us to provide U.S.-made TAURA by IFF fruit ingredients that can be easily integrated into food manufacturing processes,” said Andy Muller, IFF president of food ingredients, in the release. “Additionally, sustainability is at the forefront of this project, aligning with our commitment to ‘Do More Good.’”
The expansion will mark IFF’s first U.S. facility solely dedicated to producing TAURA ingredients, which are used in a variety of long-shelf-life products, including snacks, chocolates, cereals, and bakery items. The ingredients are made using a moisture-removal process that aims to preserve the integrity of the original fruit, according to the release. IFF currently produces TAURA ingredients in Belgium and New Zealand.
IFF’s existing Cedar Rapids facility produces enzymes used in food, household and personal care products, animal nutrition, and biofuels. The company employs over 200 workers in Cedar Rapids.
