ImOn Communications is expanding its high-speed fiber internet service to Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota, marking the Cedar Rapids-based company’s first expansion into both states.
According to a release, construction on the new network is scheduled to begin in both cities this spring, pending weather conditions, and will continue throughout 2026. The expansion represents ImOn’s eighth metro service area and its first foray into the Great Lakes region.
The fiber network will offer residential customers download and upload speeds up to 5 gigabits per second and business customers up to 10 Gbps, along with fiber-based phone service. ImOn said it will staff a dedicated local team in the region to support customers.
“As technology advances, Internet infrastructure must keep pace. For too long, the Great Lakes region has been served by outdated internet technology that can’t meet the demands of modern households and businesses,” said Patrice Carroll, president and CEO of ImOn Communications. “ImOn’s 100% fiber internet network will deliver the speed, capacity, and reliability the Superior and Duluth communities need to stay connected, not only in today’s world, but for years to come.”
The company said it worked with city officials during the planning and network design phases, and will notify residents when construction begins in their neighborhoods.
Founded in Cedar Rapids in 2007, ImOn currently serves seven metro areas across Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, including the Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Dubuque, Sioux City, Clinton and Marshalltown markets, as well as rural communities across southeast Iowa.
