Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), a Danaher company, announced Tuesday an expansion of its manufacturing operations in Coralville, which more than triples its synthesis capacity.

The investment aims to increase the scalable production of customizable oligonucleotides used in next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based oncology workflows, including minimal residual disease (MRD) applications.

Oligonucleotides are short, synthetic or natural single- or double-stranded DNA/RNA molecules that modulate gene expression and protein function. They are often used for PCR amplification, gene silencing, or disease therapy.

The expansion adds new production space to IDT’s existing Coralville campus and includes the installation of additional synthesizers and ancillary equipment. According to the company, these changes will enhance manufacturing speed and flexibility while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Ajay Gannerkote, president at IDT, stated the expansion reflects the company’s ability to “translate innovation into reliable, high-quality manufacturing at scale.” He added by increasing customization, speed and consistency, the company aims to help customers “unlock critical cancer insights faster.”

The new capacity is designed to support highly customized oligonucleotide solutions for MRD and advanced oncology research, allowing for greater flexibility in labeling, concentration, formulation, yield and delivery formats. The company also reported achieving a more than threefold increase in production capacity for its oPools Oligo Pools for oncology research.

The Coralville investment follows IDT’s recent expansion of research and development capabilities in Sunnyvale, California, and is intended to strengthen its overall leadership in the MRD sector, linking assay innovation with manufacturing scale.

IDT, a global genomics provider and oligo manufacturer, also recently announced its entry into the clinical diagnostics market with the launch of its first in vitro diagnostic (IVD) NGS assay solutions in March.
