  • The Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park kicks off its inaugural concert series with The Pork Tornadoes on Friday.

North Liberty’s newest entertainment destination opens its Summer Concert Series this Friday, May 22, with a free performance by The Pork Tornadoes — the first of 10 acts scheduled at the Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park this season.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at the indoor/outdoor venue at 1565 St. Andrews Drive.

According to their website, The Pork Tornadoes bill themselves as “Your Girlfriend’s Favorite Band” and one of the country’s most in-demand party bands. Having played for more than 1.5 million people, the group puts a unique spin on familiar songs spanning five decades and four genres.

The concert marks the first major event at the facility since it opened. Construction ran from July 2024 to October 2025 following more than 10 years of planning. Hy-Vee acquired naming rights after partnering with the city of North Liberty on the project in February 2025.

The venue — a combination indoor theater and outdoor amphitheater — is the first phase of a broader plan to develop Centennial Park into an entertainment hub and community gathering space. Phase 2 includes a splash pad, an expanded playground with wheelchair-accessible units, a picnic shelter with additional restrooms, shade structures and expanded parking, with plans to open that area this summer. Phases 3 and 4 will add a year-round pavilion, an expansive plaza, an honor garden and additional parking, though no completion dates have been set.

The 2026 Summer Concert Series features 10 acts and one movie night. Most events are free, though some are ticketed. The full schedule and park rules are available at the amphitheater’s website.
