A health care startup that recently took top prize at an Iowa JPEC spring competition has come out on top once again.
Hintz Biomedical, along with HMUIRL, were first-place winners at the Iowa JPEC Undergraduate Startup Incubator Summer Track final pitches. The competition was held July 26 at the Black Box Theatre in the Iowa Memorial Union.
Lily Hintz, a certified nursing assistant and University of Iowa undergraduate student majoring in speech and hearing sciences, is the inspiration behind Hintz Biomedical (formerly known as Health Harmony). The startup focuses on preventing aggression in dementia patients via a mobile app and won $1,800 in the Investor Pitch Competition.

Anna Miller and Teresa Knecht of HMUIRL won $400 in the Elevator Pitch competition, and a total of $5,000 was awarded to eight different student businesses.
Coming in second place for the Investor Pitch category were James Altschul and Will Schwarz with Heartland Pictures, taking home $1,200; taking third place for $700 was Alyssa Minor with Nova Strength; and Best Pitch for $300 went to Kiana Shelving Major of Check Engine Right.
Other winners of the Elevator Pitch category were Jada McDonald and Kate Stewart with EmpowHER, who took second place for $300; Lauren McGovern with Creatorpreneur 101 received $200 for third place; and $100 and Best Pitch went to Gilberto Garcia with MotorWork.
