Local leaders from the cities of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Marion, Robins, and Linn County, together with the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), are hoping for congressional funding for the Tower Terrace Road Corridor Improvements project.
The project cleared a hurdle after Congresswoman Ashley Hinson selected the Tower Terrace Road Corridor Improvements project for inclusion in the Fiscal Year 2027 Community Project Funding (CPF) process. The request seeks $10 million in federal support to advance construction and safety improvements along one of the region’s most significant east–west corridors.
Tower Terrace Road is a multi‑jurisdictional project that has been planned and coordinated since the 1970s. The total remaining project cost is $56 million. The project has been planned for decades to accommodate growing traffic in the north Cedar Rapids metro area.
When completed, the Tower Terrace Road project will span approximately 8.3 miles. This major regional infrastructure initiative will connect Interstate 380 to Highway 13, passing through Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Robins, and Marion. Parts of the project are already completed, but key segments are awaiting funding.
The corridor connects four growing communities, supports regional economic development, and provides critical mobility for residents, employers, and visitors. The requested federal funding would help complete key segments that improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and expand access to jobs, housing, and services across Linn County.
Local leaders expressed appreciation for the project’s selection and emphasized the importance of continued investment in regional infrastructure.
“The Tower Terrace corridor is a shared priority for our communities,” said representatives from the four cities and the Corridor MPO in a joint statement. “Advancing this project strengthens regional connectivity, supports economic growth, and improves safety for everyone who travels through the area. We appreciate Congresswoman Hinson’s decision to move this request forward in the federal appropriations process.”
The corridor is identified as a top regional priority in the MPO’s long‑range transportation plan and has received strong local financial commitment from all participating jurisdictions. The project will continue through the federal review process as Congress considers FY 2027 appropriations legislation.
