Mercy Urology Clinic and Hall-Perrine Cancer Center are partnering with the Cedar Rapids Kernels to honor prostate cancer survivors and raise awareness about the disease during a special game Sunday, June 7, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Discounted tickets are available at mercycare.org/KernelsProstateGame. The first 20 patients who register will have the opportunity to throw out a first pitch before the game; registration is available at mercycare.org/services/urology/prostate-cancer-awareness-game.

Mercy Urology Clinic staff will be stationed on the main concourse during the game to share information with fans. Additional event activities include free Mercy giveaways, auctions for bats signed by Kernels players and limited-edition Kernels jerseys worn during the game, and a post-game catch on the field for families. Children eat free, and participating kids receive a free baseball.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 333,000 new cases of prostate cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S. in 2026, and about 36,000 men are projected to die from the disease. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among American men other than skin cancer. The society notes that with early detection and advances in treatment, most men diagnosed with prostate cancer today survive the disease.

Mercy Cedar Rapids is a Catholic health care system serving Eastern Iowa. Its flagship facility, Mercy Medical Center, is a fully accredited, 424-licensed-bed hospital in downtown Cedar Rapids. The system was founded in 1900 by the Sisters of Mercy.
