Former nurse to open I.C. Pilates in May

An Iowa City native and former nurse is opening I.C. Pilates, a workout studio at 725 S Clinton Street on May 1.

Owner Jennifer Anderson said she hopes the studio will benefit people looking for beginner and advanced pilates classes.

“I initially started doing Pilates because I was having more issues with hyperflexibility and injuries,” she said in an email to the CBJ. “I had to discontinue workouts that had become impossible for me to maintain stability in my joints. I love working to achieve strength and flexibility in the fine details of the coordinated movements of a Pilates exercise. I could barely keep up with the beginner exercises when I started but the more I went to Pilates classes the stronger I got and the better my body felt.”

Group classes, video on demand and private group sessions are all available, according to the I.C. Pilates website. Participants will have their own station with a reformer-tower, stability chair and a Pilates mat.

She said the location downtown will appeal to people in walking distance of the studio.

Ms. Anderson graduated from the University of Iowa and used her nursing degree to volunteer at Concern for Women, The Spot, Global Health Outreach and Mission of Hope. She began teaching Pilates in 2021.

A ribbon cutting event will be held May 23.
