Acclaimed pastry chef Cory Barrett is the co-owner and proprietor of a new bakery and deli being built in Coralville at 3242 Crosspark Road. The all-day shop, called Barrett's Quality Eats, will offer fresh bread, bagels, salads, sandwiches, pastries, coffee and more. It will be directly beside a multi-tenant retail building. Both buildings are under construction, with the bakery anticipating a May 2023 launch, said Mr. Barrett in an email to the CBJ. Mr. Barrett has worked a pastry chef throughout the country including in Detroit, Michigan;  Las Vegas, Nevada; Seattle, Washington and Cleveland, Ohio after attending culinary school at Baker College in Muskegon, Michigan.

He may be familiar to Food Network viewers, having won season five of the Spring Baking Championship and earning the $25,000 grand prize. He also worked with Greek chef and TV personality Michael Symon on 17 episodes of Iron Chef. In 2008, he was named a James Beard Award semifinalist as a Rising Star Chef of the Year. Thompson & Co Salon and Parlor is one tenant already confirmed to be opening a store in the retail building. At their Iowa City location they offer hair treatment services, as well as six month and one year membership program deals.

About two-thirds of the multi-tenant space is pre-leased, while some space is still available, said Nate Kaeding, director of business development for Build to Suit Inc, in an email.
