The design awards keep on coming for the new Ellis Golf Course clubhouse in northwest Cedar Rapids.

The facility was recently the topic of a cover story in Metal Architecture, a monthly publication distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The project was also recognized as the Best New Civic Development in the Corridor Business Journal’s inaugural Commercial Real Estate Design Awards, announced in early September.

The Iowa Architect magazine published a four-page feature on the clubhouse in its fall 2023 issue.

And in January, the project won a 2023 WoodWorks Wood Design Award for Regional Excellence from the Wood Products Council.

The new $3.5 million, 5,820-square-foot clubhouse at 11401 Zika Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids, opened in July 2022, was built after the former facility was extensively damaged in the 2020 derecho. It was designed by OPN Architects and engineered by Fehr Graham and the Structural Design Group.

The new Ellis Golf Course clubhouse facility includes a concession area and pro shop, as well as a 2,300-square-foot event center that can seat about 120 indoors, with room for another 40 on an outdoor patio. The event center, overlooking the Ellis Golf Course, is available to rent year-round for corporate outings, birthday parties, family events or receptions, and is fully ADA-accessible.
