Washington’s newest Dutch Market saw a significant turnout on Aug. 17 as the community gathered for its grand opening.

“Sales were very good, a lot more than what I had projected, so we are very, very happy with the outcome,” said owner Mervin Yoder, in a press release. “We are just spinning trying to keep up with everything. It’s going to take us a couple weeks to (achieve) a new normal where we can serve everybody efficiently. Community support was outstanding and we are determined to deliver.”

Mr. Yoder and his wife, Ada, estimated that between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended the event. More than 1,000 homemade cinnamon rolls were given out, along with samples of Birch Beer, a beverage similar to root beer, and a selection of ice cream, meats, cheeses, and pantry items.

In addition to its retail offerings, the market features an ice cream parlor, deli counter, and a coffee shop called Coffee Talk, offering space for patrons to sit and visit.

Dutch Market is located at 2324 IA-1 and 92, and is open six days a week 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., closing on Sundays and open until 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
