The Downtown District has announced the launch of the Downtown Cedar Rapids Trolley, a new, free transportation pilot service designed to improve connectivity and convenience for residents and visitors to the district.
The trolley fleet will begin rotating at stops for service on Friday, Dec. 6, and will operate from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night through Jan. 31.
“This trolley pilot is an exciting new way to experience everything downtown Cedar Rapids has to offer,” said Caleb Knutson, Downtown District Executive Director Caleb Knutson said in a release. “Whether you’re enjoying the holiday lights, exploring the districts, or visiting our local establishments, the trolley makes it easier than ever to connect with the heart of our city. We’re thrilled to see this initiative come to life as we continue finding innovative ways to enhance the downtown experience.”
The trolley will offer rides to showcase the holiday lights, with multiple stops throughout the downtown district, including stops in NewBo and Czech Village. It will also stop at popular locations such as Pickle Palace, Big Grove, LP Street Food, and the National Czech and Slovak Museum.
This experience is intended to allow riders to explore and enjoy the locally-owned and operated restaurants in the downtown area with the convenience of not having to walk in the cooler winter months.
“The Downtown trolley is a fantastic addition that offers something for everyone,” said District program director Jennifar Bassett. “Whether you’re a family out to see the holiday lights, friends exploring the downtown night scene, or visitors discovering the unique charm of our districts, the trolley provides a fun and accessible way to connect and stay warm while doing it. We’re excited to see this pilot create new opportunities for people to experience and enjoy downtown together.”
The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust are sponsoring the Downtown Cedar Rapids Trolley pilot.
