The winners have been announced from the month-long Eastern Iowa Corridor Vegan Chef Challenge.
Winners were chosen by Corridor residents who dined at the participating restaurants during the challenge event during the month of September.
More than 200 people voted for various chefs and dishes. The group also included “super voters,” diners who ate at three or more Vegan Chef Challenge restaurants during the month of September.
Voters were vegan, vegetarian, and meat-eaters.
Vegans want more options, and restaurants want more customers, making the challenge a win-win, former chef Alex Bury said in a release.
“If a group of friends is planning a dinner out on the town, and one of them is vegan, the entire group will skip a restaurant without good vegan options,” Mr. Bury said.
Winners of the challenge included:
- First and Best Entree – The Full Bowl
- Second and Best Overall Menu – Oryza Asian Cuisine
- Second and Best Cheez – The Plantiful Pantry
- Best Burger – Field Day Brewing Co.
- Best Sandwich – The Quarter Barrel
- Best Appetizer and Best Vegan Date Night Destination – Lacayo
- Best Dessert – Iowa Farm Sanctuary
- Best Tofu Dish – Oja
- Best Indian Cuisine – Saatvik Swaad
- Best Breakfast – Griddle Me This
- Best Cupcakes – Molly’s Cupcakes
- Best Fine Dining – One Twenty Six
