City of Marion introduces Ryan Waller as new city manager

Long-time government official Ryan Waller is the new city manager for the City of Marion, pending formal approval from the Marion City Council, according to a press release.

Mr. Waller, who has served in local government for 20 years, has been the city manager for the City of Indianola since January 2016. He will be responsible for 250 employees and more than 40,000 residents, while managing an annual operating budget of $121.7 million.

“We were fortunate to have a group of highly-qualified candidates interview for the position,” said Marion Mayor Nick AbouAssaly in a statement. “Mr. Waller stood out as a dynamic and passionate leader who will reach higher every day to help Marion achieve its fullest potential. We couldn’t be more pleased to have him join our team.”

While serving as city manager in Indianola, Mr. Waller oversaw the planning and implementation of the City Square Master Plan, the planning and construction of a $45 million wastewater treatment plant and improved financial procedures that resulted in a bond rating upgrade and budgeting awards for five consecutive years.

Mr. Waller’s first day on the job will be Nov. 29. He anticipates spending his first few months in Marion getting to know city employees, partner organizations and members of the community.
