Specialty pediatric healthcare provider ChildServe – Iowa City is celebrating the expansion of their current facility with a grand opening and ribbon cutting Wednesday, May 16.

The nonprofit caters to more than 1,200 children and families from Johnson County and 46 adjacent counties. Statewide, ChildServe provides services to nearly 5,800 each year, and focuses on complex medical care, pediatric rehabilitation, autism, behavioral health and community-based services.

Previously, ChildServe – Iowa City operated from two locations in Coralville to accommodate the growth of its psychology and mental health services. At nearly 13,000 square feet, the building expansion doubled the size of the organization’s facility at 2350 Oakdale Boulevard, meaning all services are now under one roof.

The added space means clients will have better access to outpatient therapy services, including speech, occupational and physical therapy, as well as autism and applied behavior analysis (ABA) services, a news release said.

The expansion also includes sensory playgrounds for its Autism Day Program as well as Fun Factory structures, which feature rock climbing walls, a zipline, monkey bars, swings and slides.

“The expansion project is part of ChildServe’s larger regional growth strategy,” the news release said. “This includes significant investment in Eastern Iowa, as the organization opened its first satellite location in the state, ChildServe – Cedar Rapids, in April 2023. The growth strategy also includes enhancing the organization’s other campuses in Ames, Des Moines and Johnston.”

The ribbon cutting is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 2350 Oakdale Boulevard.
