The AMC Classic Westdale 12 theater, a longtime fixture in southwest Cedar Rapids, is now up for auction. With a starting bid of $250,000, the property has yet to attract any takers.
Situated at 2435 Edgewood Road SW, the theater first opened in 1998 under Carmike Cinemas as Wynnsong 12, becoming a popular destination for moviegoers in the area. AMC acquired the theater in 2016, but its operations were short-lived; the screens went dark during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the venue permanently closed in January 2023.
According to the auction site, the property is 46,181 square feet with 12 screens. Bidding is set to close on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The theater’s former parking lot has already been earmarked for redevelopment. Texas Roadhouse announced plans in October to construct a new building on a portion of the lot at 2425 Edgewood Rd. SW.
