The building that houses the beloved and iconic A & A’s Pagliai’s Pizza in Iowa City is for sale for $5 million. The three-story brick building, located at 302 E. Bloomington St., was built in 1878 and operated as a grocery store prior to being renovated into the space that is now Pagliai’s. In addition to the restaurant, the building also has 16 apartments. Included in the sale is a laundromat that operates adjacent to the restaurant. Anthony Fontanini, owner of Pagliai’s, said they plan on staying put and hopes the new building owner will honor the seven years remaining on their lease. He added that if the sale displaces them, the restaurant will move to a different location in the area and continue to operate as before – whether that’s in Iowa City, Coralville or North Liberty. Rex Brandstatter, realtor representing the sale, said the new owner is obligated to honor the current lease with tenants. “A deal’s a deal,” he said, emphasizing on the website listing that the current tenants will not be moving. He said there has been a lot of interest in the property since it went on the market almost two weeks ago, saying that approximately 75% of the inquiries are local. According to Zillow.com, the building is being sold by ReMax and has 3,241 views and 52 page saves so far. https://corridorbusiness.com/pagliais-continued-legacy/
