The Hiawatha Economic Development Corporation (HEDCO) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 18 to welcome Blue Lagoon Pool and Spa to the Hiawatha business community.

The business will hold their grand opening Saturday, April 27.

Blue Lagoon bought the building at 1200 North Center Point Road in Hiawatha, and will occupy their newly remodeled space in the building next to LA Trends and Lux Salon Spa.

Previously located on Blairs Ferry Road NE in Cedar Rapids, the company’s s new home gives the established pool, hot tub and swim spa business better storage options and easy access off Interstate 380’s Boyson Road exit.

“We went to a meeting and learned that Hiawatha still has that small town feel and was welcoming,” co-owner Breanna (Frink) Rickels said in a release. “Hiawatha has a good mindset about being flexible (for business).”

Blue Lagoon Pool and Spa, a family business that Ms. Rickels shares with her father, Jeff Frink, also has a store in Coralville. They are a growing business with 10 employees.

Blue Lagoon carries Caldera and FreeFlo spas, along with Endless Pools brands.

“We are happy that Blue Lagoon Pool and Spa has chosen Hiawatha as their new business home and will help them build a great business in the years to come,” said Liz Mathis, HEDCO’s economic development doordinator.
