Big Grove Brewery and GreenState Credit Union have announced the release of the fourth annual A Greener State of Mind, a citrus-forward pale ale. The collaboration between the brewery and credit union aims to support environmental efforts across Iowa.

Proceeds from the beer will go to the Iowa division of the Izaak Walton League, a nonprofit focused on conserving and promoting the sustainable use of the state’s natural resources.

The funding will aid the League’s citizen scientist programs, including the purchase of water testing kits for the Save Our Streams initiative, which trains volunteers to monitor local waterways and gather water quality data.

“With the support of A Greener State of Mind, we’re excited to expand our citizen scientist efforts and provide the resources needed to continue protecting Iowa’s rivers and streams,” said Rick Cerwick, former president of the Izaak Walton League Iowa Division. “This funding will help us equip volunteers with water testing kits and ensure that our ‘Save Our Streams’ initiative continues to have a lasting impact.”

This year marks the 100th anniversary of a significant achievement by the Izaak Walton League – the establishment of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.

Stretching over 260 miles, it stands as the longest continuous river refuge in the continental U.S. and highlights the League’s century-long dedication to preserving and protecting natural resources.

“We’re excited to partner with GreenState on this project, which goes beyond crafting great beer. It’s about bringing our community together in support of a cause that truly matters to this generation and future ones – preserving Iowa’s landscape and ensuring its natural resources are available for all to enjoy,” said Mikala Demet, community and project manager at Big Grove.

GreenState echoed this sentiment. “The environment, community green spaces, water quality, and conservation are extremely important to GreenState Credit Union’s mission,” said Tara Wachendorf, vice president and public relations director of GreenState. “This partnership represents our commitment to making a positive impact in the community and for the environment as well.”

The limited-edition beer will be available at Big Grove’s locations in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Iowa City, and Solon as well as select retail outlets throughout Iowa.
