Despite challenges that most businesses faced during the COVID-19 pandemic over the past year, business is booming at Phelan’s Interiors in Cedar Rapids.
President and CEO Paul Phelan credits his staff for the continued success.
“Our design staff is outstanding,” he said. “Designers come and seek us out because of our respected reputation.”
Remote interior design services have been especially helpful during the pandemic as in-person consultations were limited for a time. “Design-in-a-box” allows designers to send clients elements such as fabric and color samples, mood boards and renderings based on a photo of the space.
“All we need is a conversation to understand how the space is to be used, how many people are required to use it and then get a good understanding of it,” Mr. Phelan said.
Commercial projects that were in the works before the pandemic started in March 2020 have been completed as well as projects in the works, such as a retirement community, dentist’s office and public spaces.
Phelan’s recently introduced several new lines of furniture which offer a fair price and quality fabrics: Flexsteel, Rowe and an expanded line of Craftmaster.
The residential realm is also busy, as people who were quarantined at home last year have more money available for interior design projects, Mr. Phelan said.
