TrueNorth Companies continues its dominance in our Best Insurance Provider categories, winning both Best Life Insurance and Best Property/Casualty for the fourth year in a row. The Cedar Rapids-based insurer’s combination of in-depth expertise in many types of insurance products, and its understanding of customers’ complex business needs, have fueled its rapid expansion since its founding in 2001. The company in 2013 introduced its Wealth Management division, and in 2016 closed on its acquisition of Meeker-Magner, one of the longest-operating insurance companies in Illinois. Under TrueNorth’s most recent 2025 plan, the goal is to have 550 employees and $1 billion in sales by 2020, and 902 employees and $2 billion in sales by 2025 – ambitious goals that the company remains on track to meet. “Our mission statement is to create value for customers,” CEO Duane Smith previously told the CBJ. “We’re specialists.”
This company earlier this year revealed its long-held succession plan to the CBJ, with Mr. Smith’s son, Jason Smith, set to take over as CEO in 2020. Duane Smith will then move to succeed co-founder Loren Coppock as chairman.
