What do you consider your biggest break so far?
My high school radio teacher helped get me in the door at the local ABC affiliate in Des Moines when I was in high school, and they hired me to run cameras and edit tapes. I credit that with giving me a foundation to be successful in the TV news business because I did so many different jobs before making it to the anchor desk.
What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why?
Workforce, workforce, workforce! I have had discussions with dozens of business owners and am working on solutions to help recruit and retain top talent here in Eastern Iowa. I see my role as a policymaker as being critical to helping solve this long-term challenge.
What are your passions outside of the workplace?
Music! I truly love playing the violin and find it to be the best self-care I can do for fun. Now, I play violin regularly with Antioch Christian Church’s worship team.
What should people know about your generation in the workplace?
I think most millennials care about purpose to their work – that is, we don’t want to work just for a paycheck. We want purpose in our professional careers.
What should people know about your generation in the workplace?
I hope to continue to fulfill my passion for public service and helping people. I also hope to instill that purpose and passion in my kids as they continue through school.
