The Alliant Energy Foundation announced Thursday it has awarded more than $638,000 in its first Community Grant cycle of the year to support 138 nonprofits and causes across Iowa and Wisconsin.
The grants focus on four key areas: community safety and engagement, environmental stewardship, workforce readiness, and hunger and housing.
“Alliant Energy and the Alliant Energy Foundation continue to build strong communities by investing in organizations that make a difference where we live and work,” said Andy Kitslaar, executive director of the Alliant Energy Foundation. “Our Community Grants support the important work happening across Iowa and Wisconsin.”
The largest portion of the funding, nearly $324,000, went to environmental stewardship projects in 13 communities, including protecting wildlife spaces, planting trees and prairies, and supporting park and trail projects.
Community safety and engagement initiatives received nearly $130,000 in grants across 30 communities. This included funding for first response organizations like police and fire/EMS departments for new or upgraded equipment, as well as support for community events and building playgrounds.
Over $93,000 was awarded in 20 communities for workforce readiness, supporting youth agriculture programs, school gardens, STEM programming, and farm education.
Grants totaling $81,000 were given in 15 communities for hunger and housing needs, including food pantry support, meal outreach programs, and organizations focused on emergency shelter and permanent housing.
