Food banks across Iowa and Wisconsin will be receiving nearly 50,000 meals thanks to Alliant Energy’s recent customer incentive campaign.
According to a news release, Alliant Energy pledged to donate three meals for every customer that signed up for My Account, the company’s online account management tool, between May and July.
With some pandemic-related support slowing and inflation hitting a record high in June, many food banks are struggling to keep up with the needs of the food pantries they support.
“Alliant Energy has been and continues to be such a great supporter of the HACAP Food Reservoir and the fight to end hunger in East Central Iowa. Their generosity helps us provide nutritious and culturally inclusive food to our community,” said Kim Guardado, Food Reservoir Director at HACAP, in the release.
An estimated one in 14 people in Iowa are facing hunger, with rural communities struggling at a higher rate, according to a recent report from Iowa State University. Nearly 16,000 customers enrolled in My Account during the campaign window, resulting in nearly 50,000 meals being donated to local food banks in Iowa and Wisconsin. These included HACAP Food Reservoir, Food Bank of Iowa, River Bend Food Bank, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Second Harvest Foodbank and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
“We wanted to help soften the burden that food insecurity has on the customers and communities we serve, especially during these evolving and challenging times,” said Julie Bauer, Executive Director of Alliant Energy Foundation, in the release. “We are so thankful to the customers who joined us in this effort to help families in need. By choosing to sign up for My Account, they are truly helping to make a big difference for their neighbors and communities.”
My Account is an energy management tool to help Alliant Energy customers easily navigate their bill online or through a mobile app.
Other features of My Account include:
- Paperless billing so users can view and pay their energy bill online or sign up for automatic payment.
- Energy tracking service for customers to compare hourly, daily and monthly usage and adjust accordingly.
- Get alerts when an outage is expected, or energy use goes up.
- Notify Alliant Energy when an outage occurs.
