Jim Lindenmayer, member of the
Iowa Board of Regents for seven years, is nearing the finish line of his term.
April 30 is Mr. Lindenmayer’s last day as a regent. Appointed by Gov. Reynolds June 29, 2018 to replace Dr. Subhash Sahai, Mr. Lindenmayer was re-appointed the following year.
The Ottumwa resident’s experience in higher education has spanned more than 40 years, including a 12-year tenure as Indian Hills Community College’s president.
“Indian Hills experienced tremendous growth while he was president, as enrollment more than doubled to 5,600 full-time credit students, and the school's scholarship endowment grew from $2 million to over $20 million,” according to his bio on the regents’ website. “He also developed the Indian Hills North Workforce campus, a one-of-a-kind facility that houses workforce development, training programs for local industry and an entrepreneurship center.”
Following his retirement from Indian Hills in 2013, he served as chair of the National Job Corps Association in Washington, D.C.
Several people expressed gratitude toward Mr. Lindenmayer during the regents’ meeting April 22.
“You've shown unwavering commitment to all three universities and done a really great job, I think, in supporting us through a lot of different challenges, clearly putting the university's academic mission front and center. So I think I speak for everybody, and thank you for all your efforts,” said University of Iowa provost and executive vice president Kevin Kregel.
Regent Greta Rouse echoed Mr. Kregel’s appreciation for Mr. Lindenmayer, “for all the work and dedication you've given to the board,” she said. “It's been a pleasure to serve alongside you in many different capacities, and just echoing what everybody else has said, but especially, we'll miss your wit and humor along the way as well.”
Mr. Lindenmayer currently chairs the regents’ Academic Affairs Committee, and serves on the committee for Free Speech and Student Affairs, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Audit/Compliance.
Mr. Lindenmayer thanked his colleagues, the board and the regents’ office staff.
“It's been a great, fulfilling experience for me,” he said.
