Newmark is marketing the former ABB Burlington switchgear manufacturing plant in West Burlington for sale or lease, officials said this week.
The 365,640-square-foot manufacturing and assembly plant was closed down by ABB at the end of June, leaving an estimated 300 employees out of work. ABB acquired General Electric’s Industrial Solution business in 2018 at a cost of $2.8 billion and set up shop at the West Burlington site thereafter.
Newmark senior managing director Jeffrey Miller is representing ABB in the sale. Newmark’s Thomas Sonk maintains the national relationship with ABB.
The heavy industrial-zoned, turnkey switchgear manufacturing facility features anchor equipment including an existing powder coat paint line, zinc-plating line, fluidized bed/epoxy coat line, waste water treatment facility and Towveyor parts system, according to a news release. The 38.7-acre site can accommodate exterior operations or building expansions of more than 150,000 square feet.
The Burlington Junction railroad runs along the east property line, connecting to the BNSF mainline about 1.5 miles north of the property.
There is an expected total reemployment opportunity in excess of 150 employees, skilled in complex engineered-to-order electrical equipment, steel and copper fabrication, powder coat painting, electro plating and epoxy finishing, Newmark said in the release. Buyers interested in the property will have the opportunity to qualify for local and state incentives based on new job creation, minimum qualified wage rates and improved property tax assessments.
