The Hiawatha Economic Development Corporation joined Hiawatha city leaders, community partners, HEDCO board members and the owner and employees of Thermal Shop this week to celebrate the groundbreaking of the company’s new headquarters in Hiawatha.
The new facility, more than 17,000 square feet, is located on Anchor Drive and will include warehouse, office and mezzanine space. The $2.5 million construction project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, giving the insulation supply and installation company a permanent home as it expands.
Thermal Shop serves residential and commercial new construction, as well as retrofit and renovation projects throughout Eastern Iowa. Its services include insulation installation, spray foam, air sealing and shelving systems. The company employs more than 24 people and expects to add eight positions over the next 12 to 18 months.
Jacob Heffernen, president of Thermal Shop, said the new headquarters marks an important milestone for the company.
“We’re excited to put down roots and build a facility that supports our team, our customers and our future growth,” Mr. Heffernen said. “The location is great.”
Hiawatha Mayor pro tem Rob Archibald presented Thermal Shop’s leadership with a commemorative city plaque during the ceremony.
“On behalf of the City Council and in partnership with HEDCO, we’re proud to welcome Thermal Shop to our business community,” Mr. Archibald said. “Their investment reflects the strength of Hiawatha as a place where businesses can grow, innovate and succeed.”
In addition to leading Thermal Shop, Mr. Heffernen also owns Energy Ratings Group, a company specializing in residential energy ratings and building performance testing that helps builders meet energy efficiency standards.
