The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum will celebrate its grand reopening Thursday, Aug. 6, following a renovation the Hoover Presidential Foundation says was designed to modernize the visitor experience and reintroduce Americans to the life and legacy of the nation’s 31st president.

The Foundation announced the reopening, describing it as part of the broader America 250 commemoration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The event is expected to draw dignitaries, historians, community leaders, supporters and visitors from across the country.

The renovated museum will include immersive exhibits, expanded storytelling and interactive educational experiences, with a renewed focus on President Hoover’s global humanitarian efforts, engineering achievements, public service and lasting impact on American history.

“This reopening represents far more than a renovated museum,” Mundi McCarty, president and CEO of the Hoover Presidential Foundation, said in a statement. “It is an opportunity to reintroduce Herbert Hoover to a new generation and share the full depth of his story, a story rooted in leadership, compassion, innovation, and service to others. We are proud to welcome visitors from across Iowa and the nation to experience a modern museum that honors timeless values.”

The museum, located in Hoover’s hometown of West Branch, serves as both a national historic destination and a reflection of the values that shaped his life and career, according to the foundation.

“The reopening of this museum is a defining moment for the Foundation and for everyone who believes Herbert Hoover’s humanitarian legacy deserves renewed recognition,” said Allan Hoover III, chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, in a statement. “This project preserves history while creating a meaningful and engaging experience for future generations. We are honored to continue sharing the values of leadership, civic responsibility, and service that guided both Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover throughout their lives.”

The celebration will include a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, guest speakers and community festivities, along with the public’s first opportunity to tour the redesigned museum.

The renovation was funded through support from donors, partners, community leaders and preservation advocates, the Foundation said.

The Hoover Presidential Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Herbert Hoover’s legacy through its support of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum and the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch.
