The Office of Human Rights, City of Iowa City, will host a discussion on equal pay and treatment from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 19. “Equal Pay in Iowa: Legal Protections, Challenges and Pathways to Change It” will be in Meeting Room A at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St.

This program offers a chance to learn more about wage equality and the laws and tools that help address the remaining barriers to it.

The session will examine the history of pay discrimination, identify industries most affected by wage disparities, and outline key state and federal legal protections. Participants will also gain practical strategies for advancing pay equity, with insights tailored for employees, employers, policymakers, and regulators.

Ann Brown will lead the program. She is an attorney and graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law with more than 20 years of experience. Ms. Brown has represented women in landmark cases before the Iowa Supreme Court under the state’s Equal Pay Act. She continues to advocate for fair compensation practices.

This program has been approved for 1.5 state continuing legal education (CLE) hours, including 1.5 diversity hours.

Pre-registration is required. Participants are encouraged to secure their spot by visiting the Eventbrite registration page.
