The Aegon Transamerica Foundation announced a $35,000 gift to Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois to support the organization’s outdoor programming, making camp experiences more accessible for local girls.
The donation will back the Girl Scouts’ “Girls Soar in the Outdoors” program, which provides guided outdoor activities designed to build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.
“The Transamerica Foundation is proud to support the Girl Scouts’ Girls Soar in the Outdoors program and help make safe, guided outdoor experiences more accessible — experiences that build confidence, connection, and well-being,” said Laura Wirth, Head of Corporate Development at Transamerica and Transamerica Foundation board member. “By bringing girls together in nature, the program creates space to manage stress, build resilience, and discover leadership, which strengthens our community in lasting ways.”
The outdoor programming includes activities such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and overnight camping. Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois leadership stressed the importance of these experiences for personal growth.
“Summer camp is such a meaningful and essential part of the Girl Scout experience,” said Diane Nelson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. “We are deeply grateful to the Aegon Transamerica Foundation for making it possible for more girls than ever to experience the outdoors, grow in confidence, and build the courage and character that will stay with them for years to come.”
The Girl Scouts organization serves girls of all backgrounds and abilities, focusing on leadership development through various programs. The gift from Aegon Transamerica will ensure more girls can access these transformative outdoor opportunities.
