The Iowa Medical Society (IMS) has installed its 2026–2027 Board of Directors, naming Lillian Erdahl, MD, of Iowa City as its new president.

Dr. Erdahl was inaugurated during the IMS President’s Dinner on April 17, 2026, in Iowa City. The new board members were officially installed on April 18 following an election process intended to guide strategy, strengthen patient care and address the state’s ongoing physician shortage crisis.

“Health care in Iowa is in crisis. Physicians are navigating increased demands on their time and decreased resources to support them in practice,” Dr. Erdahl said. “These challenges are threatening access to care for patients across our state.”

The IMS president emphasized that the new leadership team is prepared to lead the work necessary to ensure physicians can practice effectively in Iowa.

“I am proud to serve with this group of colleagues who reflect the strength of Iowa physicians’ collective voice. We are prepared to shape the future of health care in our state,” she added.

The IMS Board of Directors sets the organization’s strategic direction and policy priorities, advocating for physicians and advancing initiatives that improve health care access and outcomes for Iowans.
