CSPS has parted ways with Executive Director Jason Zbornik, with the Cedar Rapids arts nonprofit’s board appointing a longtime board member as interim leader while it conducts a search for a permanent replacement.

The CSPS Board of Directors said in a statement Monday, April 6 that after careful consideration, it decided to move in a new leadership direction. The board said it would not discuss specific personnel matters related to the departure, but said the decision reflects its responsibility to ensure the organization’s long-term strength, sustainability and impact.
Mr. Zbornik, a local arts leader who founded Nexus Entertainment Arts, was named CSPS director in November 2023.
“We are grateful for the work accomplished during Jason’s tenure and the key role he played to advance the CSPS mission,” said CSPS Board Co-Chair Scott Byers. “Now, we look ahead to expanding our mission to support the arts and foster culture in Eastern Iowa.”
The board said its commitment to community building through the presentation, advocacy and support of the arts remains unchanged, and that programming, events and daily operations will continue without interruption during the transition.

Board member Paul Julius has been appointed interim executive director. In addition to his service on the CSPS board, Mr. Julius brings decades of leadership and administrative experience, including prior roles in education and community service.
The board has launched a search for a permanent executive director.
‘State of the Art’ Capital Campaign update
Separately, CSPS announced it has reached the $300,000 goal for its State of the Art Capital Campaign, aided by a gift from Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust. Bank President and CEO James Klein said the institution was pleased to help secure CSPS for future generations of artists and audiences.
A celebration marking the campaign milestone is set for May 7 at CSPS Hall and will include the installation of a new marquee sign in the New Bohemia District.
