Cedar Rapids City Manager Jeff Pomeranz has been recognized as one of the nation’s top 250 “Government Champions” by the National Academy of Public Administration in partnership with Local Gov 250.

The designation, selected through a competitive national nomination process spanning 39 distinct government professions, honors public servants at all levels of government — from local municipalities to federal agencies — who have demonstrated meaningful and lasting impact in their communities. Mr. Pomeranz is one of only two Iowans included on the list.

Honorees were chosen for exemplifying what organizers call “democracy at the doorstep,” a principle highlighting the role local government plays in delivering responsive, innovative and community-centered public service.

Mr. Pomeranz will be formally recognized May 12 in Philadelphia during a national ceremony timed to the United States’ 250th anniversary. The city was selected as the venue for its historical significance as the birthplace of American democracy.

Mr. Pomeranz has led the City of Cedar Rapids as city manager since 2010, bringing more than four decades of public service to the role. Before joining Cedar Rapids, he served as city manager for West Des Moines from 1998 to 2010, Port Angeles, Wash., from 1990 to 1998, and Del Rio, Texas, from 1985 to 1990.

A full list of honorees is available at the Local Gov 250 website.
