The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids has launched a public donation drive to support Transportation Security Administration officers working without pay during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Residents can drop off non-perishable food items, household essentials or gas and grocery gift cards — with individual card amounts not to exceed $20 — at the Information Desk in the terminal lobby. Visa gift cards are not accepted.

The drop-off location is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

TSA employees are among the federal workers required to report to work without pay during the partial shutdown, which began Jan. 31 and has disrupted paychecks for hundreds of thousands of Homeland Security Agency employees nationwide.

The Eastern Iowa Airport, known by its designation CID, serves the Cedar Rapids region.
