Iowa City rock band HomeBrewed, in collaboration with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, will host a fundraising event Dec. 14 at ReUnion Brewery benefiting the nonprofit’s Helping Hands home repair program.

“HomeBrewed, Home Renewed” begins at 5 p.m. at the brewery, 113 E. College St. in Iowa City. Proceeds will support Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity’s affordable home repair program serving low-income families in Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa and Washington counties.

The Helping Hands program provides critical home repairs, accessibility modifications, emergency repairs and major appliance replacements for homeowners with insufficient income. Services include repairs to vital home systems, modifications for safe home entry and exit, and emergency heating and cooling system repairs.

“Those unexpected home repairs can be expensive and put low-income families in a very tough position,” said Aaron Kiesey, Helping Hands director, in a release. “Fortunately, IVHFH is able to offer a hand-up when they need it most.”

Scott Hawes, executive director of Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, said the program removes barriers for homeowners facing costly repairs.

“(Helping Hands) ensure payments do not leave them financially burdened,” Mr. Hawes said.

HomeBrewed, which performs original songs and covers in a blues-rock style, has participated in more than 60 benefit concerts under its “Music with a Mission” motto. The band has raised more than $400,000 for various causes.

“HomeBrewed is truly dedicated to making an impact in the community,” said Tami Bonnett, development director for Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity.

The event will also feature a silent auction.
