Kristin McVay will take the helm as chief nursing officer at UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids next month, the hospital announced.
Ms. McVay, who holds master’s degrees in nursing and health administration, will assume the role Nov. 3, replacing Carmen Kleinsmith. Ms. Kleinsmith is stepping down after spending her entire 42-year nursing career at St. Luke’s Hospital.
According to a release, Ms. McVay started as a registered nurse in the orthopedics unit in 2005 and has since rotated through a series of increasingly senior positions, from managing surgical units to overseeing primary care operations across the Cedar Rapids area.
In her most recent role, she served as director of Surgical Services for the Cedar Rapids region.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kristin into this critical leadership role,” said Casey Greene, President of UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids. “Her deep understanding of our organization, paired with her dedication to nursing excellence and patient-centered care, makes her uniquely positioned to lead our nursing teams into the future.”
Ms. McVay earned her nursing degree from Kirkwood Community College, as well as a bachelor’s in nursing from Mount Mercy University and both a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Phoenix.
